SAT II Chinese

Thanks for looking at this post.

I am Chinese and I moved from China to the US five years ago. However, when I took the Chinese SAT II last november I only got a 730, and I am really disappointed. I went into the test center confident of a 800, but apparently something went wrong... Should I take the test over again next november (I am a junior right now)? If I do, do you predict an increase to 800? I still use Chinese in my home.

Here's the breakdown:
Reading 66
Listening 78
Usage 80

yeah, you tend to forget it really quick
my parents forced me to go to chinese school, and it did help me. i got 80 on everything except 78 on listening
you just gotta practice, just go to chinese school for a year or something
(i got 800)

umm but its not like i forgot chinese or anything... i can read novels in chinese and understand all of them... is it just something about the test?

also, are there prep books or practice tests for it?

omg u got 78 on listening and still an 800?why i got 78 but a 790........
i think if u speak chinese, u can basically get them all right, EXCEPT: the tape is unclear, u dont feel good on the test date, u are so reckless(like me), or the test is graded wrong.

collegeboard has a SAT prep book, and it has 1 set of practise for each subject, which include chinese

well yeah, i know about the collegeboard one, but are there any more practice tests?

thanks

It may be that your fluent Chinese is too colliquial or dialectal for the proper, straight Chinese taught in schools.

sera: lol my curve was prolly higher
the listening is so annoying cuz u totally forget what they just said...-_-

anyway, i dont kno but the only thing it looks like u need to work on is reading
so...

i got practice stuff frm my chinese school. i have no idea where my teacher gets that stuff

I have a full practice book with 5 complete practice tests, and this came from the local Chinese school. The company that publishes it is Long-Win, and it seems they do a yearly edition.

well most likely if you are from china, you should not have any problems with the chinese portion. I suspect your english isn't good enough to understand the questions. It is somewhat idiotic to think that the problem is that a person only knows colloquial or "slang" Chinese, which does not really exist.
Solution:
Learn more english especially with regard to SAT questions.
Don't be arrogant and take the test casually. Check and check again.

I hardly speak chinese with my parents and haven't really studied Chinese except when I was really small. The only real Chinese experience I have is watching the occasional Chinese tv show. The level of chinese needed is about 1st grade level.

I don't think my English is the problem though, seeing how I'm currently in AP English. I guess I just need to be more careful next time...
