If you are of Chinese origin, and score an 800 on the subject test, would colleges not be impressed by that?

Given that you are Chinese and that almost half of the test-takers get 800, the score will not help much.

what if i’m not a chinese and score, say, around 650? will that help? my chinese friends easily score >750 in chinese sat. I don’t even dream score that high. 650 probably will take all i have… what do you think an ivy school will look at 650 chinese?

650 on the Chinese Subject Test is a very poor score in terms of one’s percentile. Even 750 is the 21st percentile.

In terms of percentiles, 650 on the Chinese Subject Test is equivalent to scores in the low 400’s or high 300’s on almost all of the other tests.

As the other posters have said, 650 isn’t a good score. Perhaps you should consider other subject tests.

Indeed. Chances are you can do much better, percentile-wise, on a number of different tests. I’d go as far as to say if you’re not confident you can get at the very least 780, then don’t take the Chinese.

wow that’s not very encouraging… but thanks for being forthright with me. any tips on Chinese tests please??? 780? that’s impossible for me. but idk in two-3 yrs. i can’t remember a lot of characters.

ok i have another question - did any of you non-chinese got chinese SAT above 750? All the people I know who did that well are chinese - granted I don’t know many people who took the chinese sat. If you don’t have a chinese parent and got a good score, i really want to hear from you and tell me how to study since i have the ambition to do it in the near fruture.

Oh I know - I’ll take it. if I do well, I’ll send it to the college. if not, trash it. is it possible? colleges won’t see my score if I don’t send it in?
