SAT II Chinese

Hey,

I'm an American, but my heritage is Chinese. My parents speak Chinese at home, but I usually reply in English. Currently, I can speak fluently, but my chinese vocabulary is below average. I can't read or write Chinese because I dropped out of chinese school when I was little and haven't tried to pick up the language.

Now, I'm going to be a sophomore next year and I've become interested in learning the language again (reading and writing) so I can use it later in life. I want to be able to take the SAT II (hopefully get an 800), so I have a few questions. Hopefully those who have taken the test or those who are familiar with it can help me. I know there is probably a good number of Chinese people here.

Is it possible for a Chinese speaker, who already knows how to listen and speak fluently, to learn the vocabulary and writing on the SAT II Chinese in a little less than 2 years?

How in depth does the SAT II Chinese go? I mean, I can speak Chinese so it won't be too hard to achieve a 750+ score if I work hard right?

Thanks for the advice.

you will need to do reading on the test. they are available in simplified, traditional and hanyupinyin. there is one more form that i don't remember. speaking is not tested. and listening won't seem like much of a problem for you. but pick up a practice test and try out the questions to see if you feel comfortable with them.

i think if u can speak fluently, ur pretty fine. theres 4 form, the simplified, traditional, hanyupinyin, and the taiwanese symbol form (actually not too sure wat they are called). So basically, if you can speak it fluently, u will probbaly be fine with the hanyupinyin. I gues just practice anyhow wen u hav the chance to in this two years. Definitely pick up a sample test or sth.

It's pretty easy to pick up if you can do pinyin.

Oh, thanks it'll be a lot easier with pinyin. But i'll try and learn the languange anyway.

i've always wondered how colleges look upon chinese kids taking the chinese sat ii's. do they consider it "taking the easy way out?"

I'd make sure I was very confident about the Chinese SAT II before taking it, because it has the worst curve of all SAT IIs, so anything but 800 is... less than good.

^That's true. The average score is, like, a 760 :(
