An influential advisory admission's board of the University of California has recommended eliminating the SAT Subject tests requirement for admissions to UC schools. As people may remember when UC recommended eliminating the SAT reasoning test seven years ago, the College Board scrambled around and changed that test.
UC has six of the top fifty rated universities in the 2008 USN&WR national list. Nearly 40% of the SAT Subject tests are taken by students from Ca. (according to Fair Test) and it's pretty likely that if UC drops the SAT Subject test requirement at least some other competitive schools will follow suit (although Harvard Dean of Admissions has already told the Crimson that Harvard has no intention to do so).
The UC proposal is likely an attempt to enable more URM to qualify for admissions to UC schools. I'm wondering if other people have an opinion about the proposed action.

I get the impression these tests are all about making money for College Board, so I don't have a problem with UC or anyone else dropping them.

Same.. ^^^^

The SAT subject tests are not the best indicators for college success. They are not needed.

Wow, i think the SAT subject tests are a way better indicator than SATs or ACTs!

Maybe that's biased, coming from someone who got a 670 from a very basic bio class, when some "AP" classes produce <500 scores...
