SAT II factor

I’m an international student intending to apply to Bryn Mawr. I don’t plan to take the SAT II, so I would like to ask: has anyone (especially international students) be admitted to Bryn Mawr without submitting the SAT II score? Will I be in a great disadvantage if not taking the SAT II? :(

I would greatly appreciate any comments/ advide. Thank you for reading! :x

Hi bmcdream, I am an admitted international student this year. I submitted my SATI&II scores so my advice may be not that helpful, but I do have some advice for you…

BMC admits student based on a flexible policy([Standardized Testing Requirements | Admissions | Bryn Mawr College](http://www.brynmawr.edu/admissions/apply/tests.html))
it says:“The subject/AP tests are highly recommended but not required for students living abroad”, so you can certainly apply without SAT2s and it won’t hurt much–When BMC (or other LACs) say that sth. does not have to be done, she really means it! And I was admitted to another LAC without SATs because I forget to submit them(my bad…) but it still admitted me because it does not require SAT if you are an international applicant.

However, I think you should try your best to do it…I mean, its april now and you have opportunity to take it in May, June or October, so could you squeeze out some time and try once? I didn’t mean to push you or something, but Bryn Mawr(or practically any other great school) would love to see you challenge yourself!

And, if you really don’t have time to do the test, try to make your essays perfect and get an interview! When I finished writing my why BMC essay I felt I loved this school even more and was sure that this was the place where I truely belong. About the interview, I did not know much about the app process from the beginning and I DIYed so I missed it, but I think its a great opportunity for you to know more about the school and let the school know more about you. A great interview performance can also make up a little bit for the SAT2, I think, but not much because more and more international students are competing for top LACs like Bryn Mawr College and many of them will submit SATI, 2 and even APs.

Good luck to your SATIIs if you are going to take them and the rest of your app process!

Thank you for your helpful advice. Sadly I’m just an average student who knows nothing about science, so I’m worried that my SAT II scores would likely be very low and therefore lower my chance of being admitted.

I could take Chinese and Math I , but Chinese is offered only in November (My Chinese is also not that good), and I want to apply ED, so… :(

I’m looking forward to hearing more stories from admitted students! Thank you so much!

Well, I come from China…so are you a Chinese gir, too?

It’s okay…if you think not taking is a better choice then it is okay for you not to submit. But remember pay lots, lots, lots of attention to your essays and speak your feelings about BMC from deep inside your heart!!

Also, if your are not that good at science, you could try the SAT2 humanities subject like history, literature etc. A lot of my friends’ tried them and they think these subjects are even more “advantageous” for their app since most Chinese/Asian students prefer to do Math+Physics+Chem.Try something different is good!

And, like I just said, no SAT2 scores won’t block your way…the college app is all about showing the college who you are, and why you belong there. Collect everything about yourself–certificates you earned, off-campus experiences…everything you do counts! More importantly, think hard and try to get to know BMC from several dimensions. Believe in yourself and remember that scoring at the average level doesn’t mean you are a mediocre person–find out what is amazing about yourself!

It took me several turns to figure that out, and I hope you don’t need to wonder around without knowing what to do. Good luck~~!
