SAT II French 2010

Hi, I'm from India. I have studied French from grade 4 to grade 10. We cant take it in 11th grade, so I didnt :(

But now Im in 12th, im a humanities student and plan on taking the french sat in october. I have some questions regarding this.

How should I go about preparing?

Which books should I get?

Should I take French up as a 6th subject even though Ill have to study it by myself? Will it show that I am taking up an extra subject/ I am trying to challenge myself?

You should buy the French SAT book from REA. You could also take the tests from the Barron book by Renee White.

How is PR???

Ill definitely get REA but am confused b/w PR and barron’s.

PR is quite helpful for a quick review; I don’t much about REA, though. Unless you are taking the French test with listening, focus heavily on improving your grammar and vocabulary. Get the big Blue Book from College Board; it has all the SAT II tests in it, and since they come directly from the College Board, they are the most accurate in terms of what you’ll see on the exam. If you take a study period to prepare for the SAT II, colleges would see you as a serious, dedicated student…or at least I should think so.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I personally don’t like Princeton Reivew…it’s too easy and shallow.
Go with REA and Barron.
Good luck!

Barron’s French SAT tests will over prepare and challenge you.

See, the thing is that one doesnt get SAT french books here, in delhi atleast, ive checked a couple of places. Im asking someone to get them from the US. So thats why I want to be really sure of what I should get.

ill get REA and barron’s then?

Im taking without listening…
The CB guide is for all subject tests right? I looked through it in my school library…it had only one or two practice tests (French w/o listening).

How the extra ie 6th subject system (which I mentioned earlier) is that you can choose an additional subject apart from ur other 5 subjects, but they dont teach you that subject in school, you have to pester the teacher to teach you. we dont have many french teachers, maybe only 2 or 3…so anyway, I can ask them to test me in order to show colleges that I have done french, because there is no other way to certify that…

Do any of you think I should take french up as my 6th subject?

Order REA for the grammar review and prep tests and White’s Barron for the practice tests (which I found harder than the real test)
There’s no use ordering the Subject Tests Blue Book since there are, as you say, only a couple of prep test for the French SAT
You should take it as a 6th subject if you really want to and if you love French. THere’s no harm in that
