SAT II: French w/ Listening

So who's signed up for it?

I'm not, but I'll most likely do so tonight. I don't know of any French SAT II prep books... but if they exist, which would you recommend? If those aren't available, which AP French book do you recommend (I'm taking the AP as well, so that'll be helpful information, anyway)? I don't have much time to prepare - I only thought of taking the test a couple days ago - so I'll need a book that's easy to find, with plenty of sample listening activities.

Thanks for replies!

I am planning to pick up a copy of the newest version of the PR book for French SAT II. I'm pretty strong on French but I still want to review basics that aren't covered in my advanced grammar books, and do some practice tests. How long have you been studying French?

I'm signed up for the ones without listening.........I need to get a prep book too.

Yeah, I think I'll get the PR book, even though it doesn't have a CD.... Oh well.

I'm in my sixth year of French at the moment (French V at school). You?

I'm signed up for the november test date.

I don't have any prep books, but truthfully, I'm not worried. I'm a Canadian student who has been in a French Immersion program since preschool (basically, this is my 14th year learning French). Right now I'm taking a bilingual IB diploma with History and Math in French as well as the French A2 class (fluency + immersion level). I'm thinking that if I can write History Paper 3 in French, the SAT II test will be no problem.

As for prep... try to find/download french music, movies, or tv shows. Actually, most of the DVDs now have the language options where you can play them in French. So go rent "Chocolat" and watch it in French a couple times. I find that absorbing movies/culture/etc. is more helpful that listening to a comprehension cd because you actually have to try and be interested to understand what is going on!

Good luck :)

edit: How many can you get wrong on this test to still get an 800?

well I've signed for the oct French sat....I've used REA and PR...but I already knew all the stuff in the books.....I'm just reviewing Grammar and maybe improving a little my vocab.

oh...and about how many you can get wrong...I don't really know...depends on how many questions there are...but I guess about 5 maybe even 6 or 7....don't know for sure, though.

I'm taking it in November...already took the AP test last year, got a 4 so I'm not too confident of my chances on the SAT II. Just taking it for "fun" so to speak, since I have my needed SATIIs already...

wish everyone luck!

I'm taking it in December. I'm in Honors French 4 right now, which is the same as AP French 5 in my school except it gives you an extra year before taking the AP test while still getting that boosted GPA. I have the PR SATII book and the AP French book from Barron's which has loads of listening on it.

anyone know of the raw score conversions for the test? i got 4 or so wrong, maybe 3... 800 please?

Oh man, that test totally raped me.

I sort of zoned out during the listening parts (I can't say why; I was tired and used to not having to listen too hard), so I had no idea what was going on when the questions were asked. Maybe I'm exaggerating in my old age, but I'm sure I guessed on a third of the listening.

Ugggh. It ruined my day. I'll be lucky if I get a 650. Horrendous.

I zoned out for the whole test. Serioulsy I was like OH i have to take it first, uh oh! I was so busy preparing for Chem and ready to take it my mind was like FRENCH ew what not now...a 650 sounds good.

if you missed 10-15, is that still over 700? =/
