Hi. I just saw my SAT II scores and they were beyond horrible!!!!!
520- math; 530- literature!!!! i was soooo shocked! I just want to know if anyone knows how much SAT scores are weighed. I'm a really good student but a really bad testtaker. Here are my stats:

Gender: Female
Race: African-American/Black
Major: Chemistry Education
GPA: 3.85
Rank: 6 out of 410

EC:
Varsity Cross Country
Varsity Swimming (captain)
Varsity Track & Field
Hospital Volunteer
Interact Club (I'm on the executive board)
Ani-Pals (animal rights club) [I'm treasurer]
National Honor Society [treasurer]
Tri-M National Music Honor Society [treasurer]
National Spanish Honor Society
Concert Band
Symphonic Band
Church Youth Group leader
Assistant Head of Communications Department at my church
I've also been playing piano for 12 years and sent in a cd of my music

I had great recommendations and terrific essays!!! Please tell me what you think and if you think my SATs are really gonna mess up my chances! Thanks!

Your class rank and ECs are very competitive; try to keep in mind, however, that taking tests is a huge part of college life. They will (almost always) count for more in college classes than in high school, which is one reason colleges take them into account. How do you usually do on tests in school? Do you depend on other components of the class to keep your grade up?

Hey does anyone want to help me out with letting me know my chances to Cornell? I didn't apply ED because I want to know what other schools I get into even if I get accepted ED.... Please give me some idea. I am RD, White Male from a public school in the lower eastern shore of MD. Household salary of less than 40 k a year and am enrolled in 6 AP courses by the time I graduate. I think my essay was pretty good and my Interview went pretty well. Any indication would be greatly appreciated...

it's more important to live a balanced life than to invest all of your time in EC's...and I'm not talking about with regard to college admissions, I mean personally, who wants to look back on a life solely devoted to academics/extra curriculars? Impressive list, bdibble, but absurdly extensive list, nonetheless.

Swimqueen, I think your scores might hurt your chances, but I don't think you're entirely out of the running (rank and ECs look good).

Swimqueen4848: Anything can happen. All components come into play so don't give up.

bdibble: I agree with HoldenMCaulfield in grabbing the 2-4 activities most meaningful to you. I would also describe those meaningful activities and maybe explain its impact on you. Your list has many unnecessary details.
