I was wondering when people take SAT II IIC, does it involve calc? and if it does, how do people who have not taken calc yet prepare for it? I am a junior and I am taking precalc right now, next year i plan on taking AP Calc BC, any help?

No calc necessary.

Being in precalc should put you at just the right level.

There is, occasionally, a question on limits, but nothing you can't plug into your TI-89, even if you never covered that in precalc.

Is it hard, or pretty basic in the concepts?

so glad there were no limits on the may sat iic... didn't take calc yet, have no idea what limits are lol (and that derivative question was way beyond me, glad i skipped it :))

it's pretty basic in concept, i believe... if you're able to do well on the tests in normal precal, the math iic questions are probably more logic-based (using what you've learned and applying to diff questions) and NOT as conceptual focused as usual precal test in school...

so if you have an 89, and can plug and chug, easy near 800?

depends on the depth of your class, whether it's honors / accelerated / regular cp / etc, how good of a teacher you have & how well s/he prepares you... i had a pretty good precal teacher in an honors course and i got an a in the class and i spent about two hours day before just reviewing stuff i'd forgotten (i took precal last semester, haven't looked at it for about 5 months)

my advice: get the sat ii: real subject tests by the collegeboard, and actually sit down, time yourself, and TAKE the math iic test. it should give you an idea of how you'll do on the actual =)

"Is it hard, or pretty basic in the concepts?"

All the limits questions I've seen in my Barron's book have been pretty simple-- just factor & cancel type stuff.

"so if you have an 89, and can plug and chug, easy near 800?"

I wouldn't say that... you still have to have a pretty solid understanding of the material. An 89 can work miracles, but only if you understand what do use it for!
