i just have a brief question - i BOMBED my sat ii in writing (a marching band was practicing outside the room. i couldnt make that up if i tried)...do colleges look at that score as a serious factor in admissions, or do they look at it as more of a placement kind of thing? my score was a 620, and im applying to places like gw, georgetown, american, umd, etc. thank you so much for responding, im making myself sick over this!

haha, somebody answer this. is it dependant on the college? generally how important is it? i'm taking sat ii's this week, and i'm pretty damn scared.

It's mostly dependent on the college. For example, some schools like UT Austin don't even care about it. Some schools, like Northwestern, recommend it. Some schools like Stanford STRONGLY recommend it. Some like UC require it.

If it's not required or strongly recommended, then don't worry. It won't count for much.

its required for georgetown and gw, my top schools. should i panic?

They matter because colleges want to see if you really know the material. Also, writing is pretty important for some colleges. I think that you should take it again, and try to get into the 700s. Sparknotes has a great site for it.

im definitely taking it in january, but i applied ea georgtown and took them in november...i dont know if theyll see those scores at all, but if they did im scared out of my mind.

I know how you feel. My SAT math and verbal kill me!! I am retaking writing this Saturday. I NEED 700+!
