Hey guys, I've decided that I will take the SAT II Korean test possibly sometime in the spring of next year. I am Korean myself, but I know very little of the language. I can talk very basic stuff to my parents, but my reading is incredibly slow and I can't write. Could you guys recommend a good prep book for someone who probably needs to take baby steps toward prepping for the test? So far, this is the only book I found on Amazon: Amazon.com: Sat II Korean: With Listening CD - 2nd Edition: Insook Jung Cho: Books

I'm hoping to score at least 600 on my first try.

I strongly suggest that you take a different SAT, especially since you are Korean. A 600 would look good for a student that is NOT Korean, and Korean is their second language. However, even though Korean is YOUR second language as well, you are competing against many other Koreans, the majority who receive 800s. Thus, if you get a 600, you will be in the bottom percentile.

The average SATII Korean score is 720-760, if I recall.

A 600 in almost any other SAT would look better.

Many schools that have a good number of Korean students, yes. This is probably most apparent in schools on the West Coast, particularly California.

I already have all my other subject tests done. I'm pretty much just taking this test so that I can improve my Korean (through the prepping) and see how I stand at the end of it.

uh...yeah my hangul skills are not up to par, so i'll write what i was trying to say lol:

I would also agree with the other people. I too cannot read or write Korean very fluently, but I do speak and comprehend Korean at a very high level. However, both of us need to study quite a bit to be able to read the passages, questions, and answers in a short time. It would be preferable to spend that study time on a subject you could earn a 700+, rather than 600+.

However if you do decide to continue on with the Korean, good for you!

Good luck!

(and also, fluent students often take it, which is why the "average" score is above a 760)
