SAT II language self-study?

I'm considering self-studying for the SAT II Spanish exam, and was curious if anyone else here has self-studied for a SAT II language test. I took Spanish for two years in 7th and 8th grade, and am also fluent in French, which helps with the vocabulary. Does it seem realistic to study Spanish at home this summer and during next year (11th grade), and then take the exam at the end of the year? I was thinking about studying grammar from Spanish workbooks, reading novels to improve my vocabulary, and getting some audio books for pronunciation. Any other advice?

Why don't also try SAT II French? :)

Oh, definitely...operative word being "also". ;)

Well, personally, I have never met anyone who self-studied for an SAT II Foreign Language. Usually, they're already fluent in the language or have spent 4 yrs learning the language. But hey, if you have a wonderful work ethic and you really want to learn the language, I would definitively go for it. It seems like you have everything covered... you already have ways to improve your Spanish vocab., Spanish grammar, comprehension, etc.

Although, I think u should stick to the SAT II Spanish Writing and Reading, not the Listening. In my opinion, unless you can get really good tapes that make you listen to dialogues on various subjects with plenty of vocab., the listening will be difficult. I'm not expert, but I feel that you'll need experience listening to a teacher and native speakers... I don't kno, maybe SPanish TV? The pt is, Listening is hard!

Good Luck!

Listening comprehension is always the hardest to master...

Take it only if you're sure you'll get an 800; unless you are not concerned about percentiles.

I self-studied Latin for one year, got a 700. You could probably fare even better than I did.

I was interested in doing the same thing. I took Spanish (honors) for 3 years (8th-10th grade) and wanted to learn more this summer in hopes of taking the SAT II (Reading & Writing) this fall.

Can anyone recommend any good resources to accomplish this?
