SAT II Literature

how similar is sat2 literature to the normal critical reading section....i am not very strong at critical reading and generally dislike the topic, but it seems like its a topic that requires little preparation other than normal critical reading stuff....i got a 700 on the SAT verbal section and would like about the same score on the sat2...is that reasonable or is the test real difficult generally?
also any1 know what the curve is like, and what prep books are good?

It's widely considered to be one of the most difficult SAT IIs. If you are naturally talented at Lit, though, I've heard it is pretty easy.

Curve is maybe -4=800 I think.

I got 30 points higher on lit than CR, so it's reasonable to expect about the same. If you got 700 on CR you should be fine. Passages are more difficult and there's some poetry, and the questions are obviously more in-depth.

i started a while ago and it seemed quite similar except they ask a few technical questions like terms and stuff...but the answers looked trickier than normal CR ones...which book are you using, btw...

I took the SATII lit test in may, right before I took the AP lit test. I found it to be relatively easy. And I got the exact same score on lit as I did on CR.

If you have taken AP Lit already, sat ii lit will certainly be easier because I think it's easier than the AP. I took the sat ii lit without taking ap lit and found it pretty hard (and I'm a huge bookworm) but ended up scoring well.

how is it considered one of the most hardest SATs? isn't it just like CR? do you need any literature experience? because i'm thinking of switching to Lit on test day...

i don't know what to tell you. i got a 4 on the AP lit exam without taking the course, and i got a 650 on the SAT lit. I'm retaking it next week, any tips would be gladly appreciated.

lynn4eva, answering multiple choice questions on the theme of a passage from contemporary literature may not be that bad, but I assure you that that is far easier than analyzing obscure 17th century English poetry! The test is hard if you're not good at analyzing literature, basically. The only tip I have is to read lots of old British and American literature.

I got past 700 without prep last year. I'm an international student (from a science high school), so I didn't have AP Lit, nor any other literature exams prior to taking SAT lit either. The only tip I can give is forming very detailed analyses in your head since the answers look very similar. I was pretty much making mental mini-movies. They also don't ask dates or obscure literary theory.

I still remember John Donne's Twicknam Garden giving me some trouble.
