So here's a question. If I didn't take SAT IIs, for whatever reason, how much of a negative impact will this have? I took the ACT+writing instead of the SAT, and will be taking the SAT IIs in Dec. but I applied SCEA. What do you think?

I’m pretty sure that the ACTs and the SAT II + SAT I are interchangeable.

“The ACT Plus Writing Test satisfies Yale’s standardized test requirement, and no additional SAT is necessary. Bear in mind, however, that some Yale departments may use the SAT and/or SAT Subject Tests for course placement.”

If you took the ACT with Writing, then you don’t need subject tests at all.

@wrightm, I agree with all of these people.

Now I ask everyone else, does taking the ACT and doing well on subject tests help a lot? Or do adcoms not care about subject tests as much for ACT-only applicants.

Yale says that ACT with Writing alone satisfies the standardized test requirement, and it’s certain that some students who submit just the ACT are admitted. That said, the more strong scores an applicant has, the better, so it’s to an applicant’s advantage to submit not only a strong ACT, but also several strong SAT IIs.
