I signed up for the Math I SAT subject test and just took both the Math I and Math II practice tests (I took the Math I on Sparknotes and the Math II out of the Princeton Review book). For the Math I test, I scored 550 and on the Math II test, I scored a 560. Which test should I take and what book should I use to increase my dismal looking score (and how much of a increase should or could I expect). Note: I have the Princeton Review book....please let me know if you know of any better ones.

princeton review for Math II is supposed to be fairly accurate. i would suggest that you get Barron’s for Math II (even though it is extremely harder than the actually Math II test). I worked through this book in the 2 weeks leading up to the test and took two of the practice tests (got around 600 on them). then went and took one of the sparknotes math II test the night before and got a 740. won’t know til thursday on what i got on it, but i’m expecting ~730.

only take Math II if you’ve passed or are currently in pre calculus

Definitely take Math 2. You don’t sound like a strong math student, so you are bound to get a lot wrong on Math 1, which drops your score faster.

Get Barron’s for Math 2. If you know all the material that the book covers, you are headed for the 700s on Math 2. The practice tests in Barron’s is a bit harder, you can expect to get about 0-100 points higher on the actual test than what you’ll get on the Barron’s exam.
