My S needs to take the math IIc but has had no pre calculus classes. He got a 700 on the math portion of the SATI from March 12. He is in Algebra II/trig with A's. Is this a problem? i ask because I'm told there is calculus on the math IIC test. He is a junior.

There isn't really calculus on the test that I have noticed (derivatives or integrals). But, I have no idea what classwork your son may have done previously. Algebra II/Trig classes move at different paces; mine finished algebra II by first semester and pretty much finished precal by second semester.

In my honest opinion, Precal is just algebra II with harder numbers in the problems. Buy a review book for the test and he should be fine... The SAT I Math is a good indicator that he has some good underlying math skills in there.

Thanks . I'll get the practice book.

I think the SATIIC can be done w/ an Algebra II background. But in my case, since I took precalc a yr ago, I need to refresh myself on the formulas.

I just started studying & got a 690 on a practice test due to my forgetting the formulas (I got 790 on the SATI)

The key is to know the formulas & the rules and to take lots of practice tests.

i took it before i took precalculus and got 800. he should look at problems and if theres stuff he doesnt know, he can teach it to himself. its pretty basic imo. im in calc now (kinda like an introduction. not ap yet.. sniffle lol) and none of the stuff we're learning was on IIC. only Q i wasnt sure of was the last one, it was a matrix question.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, he is thinking of waiting until the Sept. test dat for the 2c part of the sub. tests. Gives him the summer to do the practice tests and review.

There is no september test date, there's an october test date though.
