Hi all,

I'm taking the SAT II math subject test in May and I was just wondering how hard it is/how much I should study for it. I got an 800 on the SAT I math section and I've always been a solid A math student (will be starting calculus next year).

Is it going to be hard for me to get an 800? How much time should I spend studying? I have almost no knowledge of the subject tests.

thanks!

(I’m assuming you’re taking level 2 math). If you’re entering calculus, you should have covered the material needed. It would be beneficial to take it sooner rather than later while the material is still in your mind. My experience: I did so-so on the SAT I math section (650-not terrible but math is my best subject in school and I’d already gone through Calc AB), so I signed up to take math level 2 subject test. The tricky part about level 2 was the wide range of material that could appear (i.e. full curriculum from alg/geo/trig/precalc)…there is the standard material that you can count on (functions, triangles, etc.), but there are a few topics that will pop up only sometimes (vectors, polar coordinates…). I got a 790 without much prep; I just did the 20 or so problems they have for free on Collegeboard, and looked up topics of the problems I got wrong. This I did the night before the test.
The curve is pretty good, and I found the subject test easier than SAT I math just because it seemed more straightforward math (you either know it or you don’t) rather than reasoning/ trickily-worded questions.
