SAT II Math vs SAT Math scores

Do SAT II Math II scores usually match or come close? I know the SAT II Math is one of the easier SAT II exams--but if you have an 800 on one do you normally have about the same on the other?

It depends, if you get an 800 on SAT Math, it’s not guaranteed you’ll get an 800 on the Subject Test, but if it happens the other way, you’ll likely get 800 on both. I took the SAT and got an 800 on Math, and then the subject test and also got an 800, so I think that you shouldn’t be too worried. I can guarantee you’ll get above 750.

I got an 800 on Math II and a 760 on SAT Math, but I’d rather that than the other way around I think.

@Platypus: I think it’s a lot more likely that students who get 800 SAT Math will get 800 Math II than visa versa because the Math II curve is so lenient and most students who get 800 SAT Math have aptitude well beyond precalc.

I got 740 on SAT1 math and 700 on SAT2 math. I think it just depends really.

SATII math is a lot harder in my opinion, especially if you don’t prepare for it.
without much studying i had 800 in SAT math
but when i took the math 2 in june last year without studying my score didn’t even come out close.

Question: Can an 800 math iic score make up for a mid to low 700 math 1 score? (top 5~15 colleges)

Sent from my SGH-T959V using CC App

I would imagine - at least that’s what my hope is. I made a ton of stupid mistakes on the SAT 1 math, and my score showed it because of how unforgiving the curve is.

I’ll try to make this as levelheaded as possible (for the record I have no inherent bias because I got 800 on both):

800 Math II requires knowledge, and familiarity with calculator and upper level concepts

800 Math requires ability, good test taking skills, and diligence (you can’t get any wrong)

13,803 people got 800 Math
22,000 people got 800 Math II (13% x number of test takers)

Therefore 800 on SAT Math is harder, but not necessarily more impressive to colleges.

To repeat what others have said, if you’re looking at the two from a scoring basis, it’s a lot easier to get an 800 in Math II than in SAT math. However, the skills required for SAT math are less challenging than those required for Math II; a lot of it is just reading questions carefully and making sure not to make silly mistakes. Math II requires you to do more solving and less straightforward interpreting. I’ll say this: if you do well at Math II, you’ll probably do well on SAT math, but I’m not sure it always works in reverse.

(For reference, 760 Math II and 800 SAT math)

I’d like to change the question a bit. Can a kid who struggles in math, and gets a 550 on the math section of the SAT reasoning test, expect to do any better on the Math I SAT Subject Test? Thanks!

Not really, math 1 is very similar to SAT math.

I figured it would probably be a wash.
