Do colleges prefer students to have taken a subject test for math, or do they not care? Some people have told me that I should definitely take one for math, and then for the others I should take one science and one humanities. I was thinking bio, and maybe english lit or french...but I don't really like math. I get good grades in it, but I struggled the most with math when I was studying for the SAT (which I just took on saturday! AHH!!). If I do take one for math though, I'd take math II for sure. So: should I take math?

Depends on college and major. Caltech requires the math 2 and a science and MIT requires a math and a science of all applicants. A number of other colleges that require SAT IIs require a math (and some of those the math 2) and science if you are applying for engineering or science. Some recommend a math if applying for business or some other majors. Otherwise, you can submit any two (only Georgetown and Johns Hopkins request three but those two recommend but not require SAT IIs) and you do not have to submit a math but you should check the rules for each college to which you intend to apply.

Even if not required it would also be a good idea to have a math if intended major is math. Moreover, if you take math 2 and a science, you are guaranteed to meet the SAT II requirements no matter where and what you apply for, except some also want a language for placement purposes.

hmm, so I guess I probably will take math II after all. thank you, that’s very helpful!

Dude if you have taken pre-cal Math2 is a breeze. You don’t need to study if you don’t want to. I didn’t and I got the 800

@wavylays94, I also got 800 w/out any studying…Basically, if your algebra/geometry/pre-calc skills are solid, you can easily notch an 800.
