I am taking the AP physics C now but we are only going to cover mechanics not the electricity and magnetism (first year offered at our school so they are not really supporting it ). I have not had any other physics before this year. I expect to have a good foundation in the mechanics but I see the SAT II physics covers E+M as well as waves and optics - it looks like physics B would have been better prep. I have never taken a SAT II test before. Would I find that I have too many gaps and am not prepared for this test if I elected to take it after mechanics ?

You would definitely need to learn all those other topics to do well on the physics sat II. you should be fine with mechanics though
