I have an ACT score of 33. Do I need to take two SAT subject tests. I know that SAT 2 tests are strongly recommended for UVA, but at some schools this means required while others really do not care when you submit an ACT score. I would appreciate any insight or guidance. Thanks.

Excellent question. They are ‘strongly recommended’ which means, yes you should take them. Make sure you take ones that are in academic areas that you have a strong background.

Take them and do well…

This has been discussed quite a bit. If a school you really want to attend states they strongly recommend something, and you want to make yourself as competitive an applicant as possible, why would you NOT?

You should. If you do well it can only help your application. That being said, my friend (in state) got in without SAT II’s.

You should take them. They can help with course placement later and I think a foreign language score over 700 (+?) can place you out of the language requirement (there’s something about this on their website under frequently asked questions). They’re not accepted as credit as AP exam scores of a 4 or 5, but I think they are really helpful at showing some of your other academic strengths when applying.

Here is the chart for the UVa foreign language placement:
