SAT II question

I have a question on the test requirement of JHU. It says on the website that:

"For those submitting SAT scores, Johns Hopkins recommends submitting SAT Subject Test scores, and if submitted, requests results from three tests. "

but then it says:

"Applicants interested in an engineering major should submit scores from the Mathematics Level 2 exam and at least one science exam."

So does JHU require 3 tests? My interpretation of the first statement is like "submit three, or don't submit at all". But the second statement sounds like you can submit two. I am so confused... :P

New Test Requirements

Required: The SAT I OR the ACT with Writing Test.

Recommended: For those submitting SAT I scores, Johns Hopkins recommends that applicants submit three SAT II Subject Tests.

Previous Test Requirements

Required: The SAT I and three SAT II Subject Test (one of which must be Writing) OR the ACT.

* Students graduating from high school in 2006—Hopkins will accept the previous test requirements OR the new requirements.

 • Students graduating from high school in 2007 and beyond—Hopkins' new requirements are mandatory.

JHU I believe does not have a requirement for sending SAT II scores. I believe it is highly suggested that you submit, however, based on my interpretation of the web site's comments, your assumptions are correct; send up to three SAT II scores or do none at all.

The second statement should state that within the three combo of SAT II test scores, one should be Math II, another should be science related, and a third can be anything.

Admissions Daniels should correct me if something I said was incorrect.

Hopkins does not require applicants to take SAT II subject exams. We recommend applicants take SAT II subject exams of their choosing, but we do not provide recommendations on which exams. We also recommend applicants send scores for three SAT II subject exams. For a full description on our standardized exam policy, please review this website: http://apply.jhu.edu/apply/testreqs.html.

There is no official advantage nor disadvantage to submitting SAT II scores. It is the choice of each individual student whether they want to submit SAT II subject exam scores and how many exams they want to submit. However, we want applicants to consider our recommendations as strong recommendations, therefore submitting SAT II scores will make a difference in the application review. There is no way to predict whether submitting scores will impact the review of the application positively or negatively, as they part of the comprehensive review of an applicant's file.

Students may submit one, two, or three exams ... they may also submit more than three exams ... they may also submit no exams. It is not a choice between submitting three exams or none at all.

Finally, our Engineering recommendation is:
1st exam: Math 2
2nd exam: A science exam
3rd exam: An exam of your choice

Thanks, AdmissionsDaniel. :)

AdmissionsDaniel,

Based on the statement:

"For those submitting SAT scores, Johns Hopkins recommends submitting..."

Could one infer that those students applying with ACT+W scores are not recommended to send SATII scores at all?

Thanks,
