When schools don't require the SAT II but say they are "highly recommended", what does this mean, if anything? If I don't take them, will I be at a disadvantage?

What if I take them, but I get what I consider "bad" scores (680-730)? Should I still send them? Are they better than nothing? Or will they detract from my application?

Anything noted as “highly recommended” should really say “required”. Schools are just being polite, but send in those scores. Their absence will look as if you’re hiding something.

^ agreed and 680 - 730 is not “bad score”

There is an SAT forum, you should try over there.

One note though…
I noticed our local state schools even says they “recommend” SAT IIs, but that’s NOT really true. Now, they didn’t say “highly recommend”, which may be the difference. But I know very few kids who take them.

Note…before you decide…see if your school keeps the scores on file with your transcript. Some do. My D’s does. We did NOT know this. So, even her 620 is going to be sent now, without her permission (thought we’d be using score choice!). So be careful with that.
