SAT II scores and Yale

I have 3 questions and I am hoping that someone out there can help me.

1) I recently received my SAT II Math and Chemistry scores. They are 780 and 770 respectively. I am wondering if anyone can tell me whether these scores put me in the top 10% of the applicant pool for Yale? If not should I take them again? I am planning to take a third SAT II subject test, probably Chinese (as it is my second language) would you recommend any others?

2) If I were to take the SAT II Math and Chemistry again would I have the option of sending in only the better score or would both scores be sent in to the colleges?

3) Would taking more than 3 SAT II subject tests be a good idea?

I am aware that Yale will consider many other factors but as I have just completed my sophomore year, these are all the standardized tests that I have done so far.

Thank you

This is only my opinion (and I may be wrong--I don't know, since I didn't apply to Yale) but I think your Math and Chem scores are outstanding, especially for a sophomore. I have no idea about the percentiles, but they seem pretty darn competitive for any school. Any Yalie want to chime in?

Also, I would definitely take more than three Subject tests. Your scores indicate that you are a good test-taker, so by all means go for it. I would take several more in your best subjects.

Don't take the SAT IIs you've already taken again. You're in good shape. I took 4 SAT IIs: Math IC, Biology E, Japanese and Lit. I wouldn't take any more math/science. IMO, if you want to take another SAT II besides Chinese, make it English or a history, etc. But play to your academic strengths.

No need to retake; just take some more next year.

if you retake same ones, ALL sat scores are reported

if you take more than the required 3, i think yale looks at the highest 3 without any preference to any particular subject tests

If you want to take 3, go for it, but i don't believe it helps other than the fact that you might get higher scores.

770 and 780 are very good scores, but a lot of people have 770s and 780s at yale. I can't say this for a fact, but i believe that the top 10% of yale applicants (or at least accepted students) would have 800s on a given SAT II, considering that it's easier to get an 800 on an SAT II than it is on an SATI subject. Especially in Math II (which i believe puts 800 in the ~85th percentile) and Chem which has a generous curve.

With that said, you shouldn't worry about your scores. Someone with an 800 doesn't have much of an advantage at all over your 780 or 770. those twenty or thirty points are REALLY inconsequential. You're definitely within Yale's range of acceptable SAT scores, and you're toward the upper end. If it makes you feel better, take more SAT IIs, but it's not necessary. The extra fifty points couldn't hurt, but they probably won't help a whole lot.

Thanks for all your help. After reading your replies Ive decided to work on other stuff like ECs and other SATs. I was just surprised that my scores were only in the mid 80s percentile. I guess there are alot more students who got 800s and 790s. Thanks anyway.

Usually 800 is the 99th percentile... math II is just an exam with a LOT of 800s and a great curve. Chinese and latin are like that too
