Ok I got a 690 on English Lit and an 800 on USH and so I have two questions. First how important for top colleges (HYPS) are SAT II's and is my 690, assuming everything else is excellent, going to be a large detriment to my chances of getting in...?

haha, we got the same scores and i think i'm going to retake literature in the fall. I think I can score much better especially with taking AP English lit next year and doing a little prep in my free time so if its the same situation with you, taking lit again won't hurt. a 690 is good, but i just don't think it'll cut it if a better score is possible

One subpar SAT II isn't going to make a big difference, but I would still consider looking for another subject that you can score better in.

Bescraze - are you going to be a senior next year? Do you have any other SAT II scores? Do you have time to take another SAT II? I don't think one sub 700 SAT II will hurt you in the end - but I would take more SAT IIs anyway with the schools you are looking at (if you have time).

I applied to Wharton Ed with decent stats (at least I thought so) and got rejected. I'm at Cornell (yea, I know - you don't like Cornell), and I'm very happy and never looked back! Admissions is so hard to figure out.

Harvard and Princeton (maybe Yale - I'm not positive) require 3 SAT IIs, fyi. So you're going to need another one to apply to those schools. I recommend retaking lit while taking your third test. I would try to break 750, or at least 700, for the top schools.

Ok--Thats what I am going to do. Retake LIT and take Math I at the same time. Also hyndrangea I think Cornell is a fabulous school, Congratulations. I just get annoyed with certain peoples (cayuga primarily) making completely ridiculous assertions and seeking to elevate a school to assuage their own ego. Thanks for the help

No problem, Bescraze - everyone has their own tastes in schools and there is a school for everyone. Also, if you took Calc during your junior year, you might think about taking Math IIc instead of Math Ic. I found it to be easier than Math Ic (I cancelled the scores of Math Ic - January test of my Junior year). The test is a bit more challenging, but the curve is generous.

definitely take math IIc... i'm positive i got one wrong and it was still an 800, from what i've heard getting one wrong on math Ic sets you back to a 750 or so depending on the administration. not a poor score, but if you've reviewed the material on IIc i would strongly recommend that test

yea I would, but I will be in PRecalc for my senior year. Its my one major weakness, all my other classes are AP. So I think I am stuck with math I, since it would be too much new stuff to learn for math 2.

High 600s to 800 are sufficient.

Scores don't make or break an applicant.

You need 750+ for SAT2s since people generally do well on them. Getting a 750 ususally will put you around the 80-90th percentiles, and you need to be the top of the top to get into those schools

Bescraze: If math is your weakest subject... is there another SAT II that you can take instead? Foreign language; one of the sciences, etc.?

harvard [yale or princeton i forgot] and georgetown are the only 3 that required 3 SAT IIs
