Hey. I just got back my SAT II scores. I got a 760 bio-M and 680 math 2. I am doing Harvard early action and I really don’t want to take the test again or send in my Math-2 score. Would it be a bad idea to send just one SAT Subject test score? I took the ACT.
I’m no expert since I am also in the process but from my understanding, you should only send these optional scores if it helps. They don’t know how many tests you had time or money to take
I’m not an expert either, but fwiw I think you should send them both if you are not going to take another exam. I know a score in the “700’s” is preferable, but 680 is close, and with your 760 in bio-M, it shows that you took two tests which is the “recommended” number, and did reasonably well on both. So the big question is which will help/hurt the most. If they truly only spend 12 seconds looking at academics, don’t give them a reason to discard your file because you don’t have two SAT subject tests listed. ( They may not even do this, but why risk it!) Now, if that score was any lower, I would advise to re take. Actually, I think you should consider taking it again anyway or a different one. I am reasonably sure that the November series will still be admissible for EA at Harvard. I assume all of your other scores are spot on Good Luck! My daughter is applying EA as well. We are all in this together
What is your intended major? 680 may not be bad if you intend to major in some liberal arts major. If you intend to major in STEM, it is probably better to retake the Math II.
@yerin2021 - I am not sure if Collegeboard has a way for you to send one of the subject tests.
If you are planning on sending just one, I’m sure you can do that. I took 3 subject tests and only sent 2 to Harvard - Collegeboard definitely allows that.
Harvard has Score Choice. I didn’t want to send my 740 Math score, but I was still able to send my US History and Chemistry scores!
I’m really perplexed as to why you didn’t send a 740 in Math as (a) any score above 700 is thought to be fine and (b) a 740 is a wonderful score and many admitted students, including my daughter, submitted the same Math score to Admissions and it worked for them.
IMHO: Sending a good, but not perfect score, demonstrates that an applicant is human. Whereas sending 800’s across the board may demonstrate a robotic like perfectionism that might make Admissions wonder what would happen to you if you failed to make perfect scores on their campus. College Admissions is not a meritocracy, students with higher scores do not always get admitted over student’s with lesser stats. Something to think about!
Ok . . . I get it, looking over @HPhelpbot123’s previous post they wrote
FWIW: I would have advised you to also send the 740 in Math even though it was Math 1, along with the 740 in World History as they are all great scores and would have given admissions more data points to fall in love with you
