I've heard that above 700 it doesn't matter that much. Only retake if you think you can do significantly better, at least above 750. The scores shown on this board are skewed, and 720 is a perfectly solid, respectable score.

720 is solid and respectable certainly, but it isn't going to help you (and will hurt) at top schools. Many, many people get very high scores, just look at the curve on some of the tests. What the SATIIs do, as do AP tests, is help put your grades into perspective. You might have lots of As, but does that mean you really know the subject or does your school have rampant grade inflation? If you have an A in physics and get a 600 on the SATII and a 2 on the AP, there's an issue.

you got all over 700 why do you worry?? 4 ARE ENOUGH

The scores on the board are skewed, but so is the whole application process to the extremely selective schools. A good score is the score that you need. For an unhooked applicant to be strong in RD, you need three scores at or above the mid-700's.

other thoughts?

Harvard, you applied to colleges once, you should be telling us!

No. the schools only require 3, anyways!

Quick question -- I skipped 9th grade English as a freshman, so I took AP Eng Lang & Comp. as a sophomore. I got 100s in the class and the regents, and a 5 on the AP exam. I decided to try the SATII Lit exam and got a 730. Should I retake next year? I'm not sure if I'll improve; it pretty much comes down to what type of reading passages appear.

a 730 is fine as along as you get above that on your other two.. if you get an avg of 750 and all above 700, that's good
