I've seen these threads in the AP section, and knowing that some people are going to take the SAT II Spanish test, including myself, I thought I might start a thread.

A couple quick questions though. Does it matter if one doesn't take the listening or is the listening pretty much required in order to have the test taken seriously by colleges? Also, what is a good prep book to use?

It is good, if you take the test with listening, but it isn’t a problem, if you take it without. For example, I took it this last January and the one with listening was not even available. I cannot wait until June, for I have SAT I to take, so I just took SAT II Spanish.

I used three books to prepare myself:
Barron’s
Kaplan
Princeton Review

Definitely liked the Barron’s one the most. All three of them were a bit harder than the test itself, but it is good, if you are overprepared.

Lastly, the exam is easy. I have had only three years of Spanish and I scored an 800 on my first take. So as long as you are good at languages and prepare well, you should be able to do more than fine. ;)

Hey guys, any word on the REA/Research & Education Association Spanish SAT II book? It’s the only one my library had available but I haven’t started using it yet.

Does anyone know what the curve is like? I heard it’s really hard because a lot of native speakers take it… I’ve been getting about 10 wrong on the Barrons practice tests, and the book tells me that that’s in the 800 range.

I’m taking it on the 7th of May. I am using Princeton Review. I read a lot of books in Spanish, so most of the stuff is really easy (I’m not a native speaker.) I got a 750/800 on the first practice test, but I’m aiming for an 800 and I think it’s really doable… Not a hard test, honestly.
