S just received a 670 on the Math Subject II Test – is that in BC’s ballpark? Also, would a 700M, 610CR, 540Writing plus legacy do the trick, or are scores just too low?

Thanks.

His CR and writing scores are definitely below what BC normally looks for. Last year (Class of 2011), the 25th/75th percentile scores 610 - 710 for CR and 620 - 710 for Writing. (The middle 50% scores for math were 630 - 720, so your son’s math score is OK.)

Legacy alone won’t give him a big enough boost to overcome those scores. Perhaps he could retake the SAT reasoning tests with more preparation – or try the ACT. Some students do better on the ACT.

Also keep in mind that standardized test scores are only one of the three factors that BC rates “very important” in its admissions process. The other two are “rigor of secondary school record” and “academic GPA.” So your son will also need a very high GPA and/or high class rank (if your school ranks) with a transcript showing lots of honors and AP classes.
