I was wondering how important subject tests are to Yale. Do they place a lot of importance on them, and has anyone here been admitted with lower scores on them? I live in a pretty small city in a state where most people have never even heard of these tests, and the schools teach what they want to, not what's on the tests. So am I doomed if they aren't amazing?

I took Math II, French, US History, and Physics. I got in the 600s on all of them, except French, which I got a 590 on, and I was accepted. My GPA in those classes was high, however, and my grades on those tests were only poor because I didn't realize they were necessary, and took them months after I had finished their respective courses (for example, I got a 5 on the AP American test, so I guess the adcom realized I knew my stuff).

Basically, prepare for them, which is something I didn't do. People getting in with scores like mine is pretty rare, I think, and I'm still incredibly thankful that they overlooked that shortcoming in my app.

Basically if you take any AP courses you should be fine on the SAT II tests- just take them the same month (or the month after) your AP tests, so that it's all fresh in your memory- and remember, Yale requires at least three, and try to take them in a few different areas.
