I am applying to a few colleges that "highly suggest" SAT II tests but do not require them (UVA, Georgetown, etc.). However, I have taken 5 AP tests thus far, 3 of which are the same subjects as offered SAT II tests (US History, World History, Literature). If I do NOT take the SAT II tests but send in and highlight my AP scores (4s for all of them), would that put me at a disadvantage to someone who sent in SAT II scores of about the same caliber as my AP scores?

I would not feel confident taking SAT II tests so long after I took the classes that correspond.

Sorry if that was confusing. Thank you very much!

It can’t really hurt to take them (besides the cost, which is minimal if you tell yourself that taking the tests is what’s going to push you over the edge for admissions officers). I think it would probably be a good idea to take a few tests in subjects with easily retained knowledge. For instance, you could probably take math 1 with no studying because it’s not like you’ve forgotten basic functions (and it’s really easy to glance over a practice test and see what you aren’t comfortable with). Also, the Literature test is not really meant to be studied for like some of the others. If you’re good at analyzing passages, you can do well no matter how long ago you took an English class. Other than that, it’s up to you whether it’s worth it to put the time into studying history or if that time could be better spent making sure the rest of your application is strong. If the school doesn’t require any tests, I’d say you should take the two I mentioned above, but not worry too much about the scores. As long as you’re above 600-650, it can really only help your application.

Thank you very much! That helps.
