I have a few questions regarding the SAT II exams and exams in general.

I am currently a sophomore in public school. I have not taken any SAT II, AP, ACT or SAT exams yet. I will be homeschooling or cyberschooling via Keystone for my junior and senior years. I will be taking AP English Language, AP US History, AP Bio as the AP courses for my junior year. I will also be self studying for the AP psychology and possibly AP Spanish exam.

Do you have any reccomendations as to what SAT II exams to take? I am strongest in English and history, but am guessing that maths and sciences look better especially if I would like to major in a science related field. I am not even considering Ivies for college as I am definitely not that intelligent but I do believe that I would have a chance as the Boston College level. My main options as of now are Boston College, Stonybrook University, Boston University, Worcester Polytech and possibly Seattle Pacific.

Does AP Bio prepare you for the Bio SAT II? Any advice on tests would be appreciated :D!

It is common to take a test in foreign language, math, one of the sciences and may be one social studies.

However, most schools require you to take SAT II tests based on what you may be majoring in. If you want to do engineering, you are expected to take Math II in a lot of schools and if you are applying for combined programs, chemistry.

It is important to know the subject before you take any test. The SAT IIs are different type of tests compared to AP and so although you are preparing in the same subject, some of the preparation for each type of test is different and so you should have SAT II test books to see if you are able to take the test based on what you are studying in AP and if not, how to prepare in a different way using the same text book.

Thank you! I am considering dual majoring in biology and an english major, or just minoring in English. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should take with that in mind? I am thinking of taking the Spanish, biology, and a math one. I will be taking ACT with writing so hopefully that will make up for not having an English related SAT II.

I am just nervous of becoming overwhelmed next year. I will be taking: ACT with writing exam, SAT exam, probably the three SAT II exams listed above, AP psychology exam, AP US History exam, AP English Language exam, AP Bio exam, NY Regents in US History (so I meet the SUNY requirements) and possibly one other AP exam.

Does that seem like too much for one year?

Schedule: PSAT in October, SAT in January or February (not sure when it’s exactly offered), Regents exam in January, ACT with writing in April, AP exams in May, SAT II’s in the spring (May or June?).

How well did you do in sophomore PSAT? If you scored 210 or more, you should try taking SAT in October or December while your PSAT preparation feels fresh. SAT IIs should always be taken while the subject is fresh in your mind, like right around your AP exams in May or June (the next date is October). Are you taking AP Spanish also?

You should be doing a lot of your preparation for PSAT/SAT/ACT in the summer.

I scored a 184 on the PSAT this year as a sophomore, so I do still have some work to do. I think that I might be ready to take the PSAT in December, as I will be studying a lot over the summer and will be beginning my junior year in June, so I will be continuing academics over the summer to keep my mind moving. I will also do what you said and use the summer as major prep time for the SAT and ACT exams.

I am not going to be taking an AP Spanish course, but I may take the AP Spanish exam. I have taken Spanish class from 6th-10th and am pretty good at it. I will be starting French next year but will not advance enough by the end of high school to take that AP, so I figure that if I self-study and learn the rest of the Spanish material for the AP exam, I should be okay. Do you have any personal experience with the AP Spanish exam? Do you reccomend that I take it?
