SAT II: U.S. History Discussion May 2009

^–those are all mostly what i put except for a few…
-for colonial assemblies i put less power then gained power?
-people who didn’t support FDR-definitely industrialists
-judicial review: are you sure? i don’t remember what i put but it wasn’t marshall i know

does anyone remember the davy crockett one? i don’t remember if i skipped it or guessed.

how do you think the curve will be? i think i missed like 4 and skipped like 2… :/

liamk- i don’t think measles was a choice…

wait, how was self-determination an underlying issue (or w/e the word was) for the 14 points? i thought self-det was a pt of the 14 points, but freedom of the seas & league of nations didn’t make sense in terms of “self determination”

awkturtle, john marshall was the supreme ct justice who issued judicial review in marbury v. madison (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marbury_v._Madison</a>)

Isn’t McCarthy, Nixon, and JFK all World War 2 veterans?

pretty sure it was smallpox

sherman anti trust and ICC was regulatory and prohibitory.

i agree with lolilaughed on the ICC and Sherman one, pretty sure about it.

Nope. They all were against communism (McCarthyism).

darn i don’t know why i didn’t remember that. i put madison because i knew it had to do with marbury v. madison. :(

it was DEF smallpox. none of the others were even relevant at the time…

I put polio for the vaccine question.

Smallpox was curable in the late 18th century. ([Smallpox vaccine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Smallpox vaccine - Wikipedia))

What are the answers to the following (ones I was unsure of on the test):

-difference between Mass/VA and Spanish colonies: joint stock? or military leaders stronger in spanish colonies?
-Walt Whitman: romanticist or evangelist
-people who didn’t support FDR: industrialists or southern land owners?
-colonial assemblies: had and gradually lost power? or had little power and than gained power by controlling monies of the governor?
-local affairs dealth with by: town meetings or officials appointed by the governor?
-quote about supreme court overruling president: truman?
-what didnt happen at in the first three yrs of the great depression: a decrease in production?
-1880s and 1890s party agreement: no immigration from china?
-ICC and sherman antitrust: first one is regulatory, second is prohibitory?
-lost generation: literary or pot smokers in the 60s?
-reason for the second new deal: deepening recession still present?

yeah i think it was measles, didn’t it say 1950’s?

Really, I didn’t find it terrible. It wasn’t easy, wasn’t bad. Normal…ish

the vaccine question was polio. I remember learning about it in class while analyzing the lyrics to Billy Joel’s “we didn’t start the fire”

The Measles vaccine was put into effect in the 70s/80s wasn’t it?

farewell to arms was an answer to one of the books things. colonies used power of the purse to control governors.

i think the vaccine one was influenza.
[Influenza A virus subtype H2N2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Influenza A virus subtype H2N2 - Wikipedia)
says vaccine was made in 1957

Joint stock companies. I believe Spain (the empire) paid directly for the adventures.

I put deism. :x

Industrialists. FDR helped the farmers through AAA. And they removed the Gold Standard.

I think they had and then lost… Not too sure, though.

Town meetings. (Fact.)

Nope. Writers who fled to Paris after WWI. (nihilism, etc)

measles was isolated from a boy in '54, so i dunno.

i put polio btw…i didnt mean to say i put smallpox. are you sure about the ICC/sherman lolilaughed?
