How much studying would you guys recommend for the SAT II US History, if I just took the AP US History test this past May?

I studied pretty thoroughly for the AP US test, using the Kaplan books and taking a wide array of practice tests. I just took a practice test for the SAT US History test in the "Official College Board" book and got a 700.

Also, if anyone's taken it before, could you describe how the SAT questions are different from the AP ones? I took the practice test and found them to be more factual, rather than analytical from the AP ones. Overall, would you guys say that the SAT one is easier than the AP one?

I have never taken the AP US History test or the SAT II for Us History so my info may not be helpful whatsoever. But I have had friends take both and this is what they've told me:

SAT was easier for them than AP in terms of there not being as much ananlytical thinking needed for the SAT as there was for the AP

AP was easier in that you didn't need to memorize tons and tons of specific details. You had to know more about the trends of history and not so much about who did what, when, where and why.

I took both, and the SAT II mcq's are a lot more specific and more detail orientated.

I also took the US history AP exam in May. To prepare for the SAT II, I am just re-reading a prep book (REA) that I used for the AP. I think that this is enough if you really studied and absorbed information before the AP exam.

I took both last year. Your assessment of the questions are 100% correct. These are much more factual and on the basis of "You know it..or you don't" unlike the AP, where you can BS a little. I found both the SAT and AP to be pretty easy. But overall, I thought the SAT was easier because it was just facts--not analyzing the wording. For you, you might need to just skim a little. But, since you're hitting 700, you don't need to go crazy like some might. :) If you want more, PM me.

do you think the

AP US HISTORY CRAM PACKET

will get me by.

thats all i used for the AP test and i thought it was very very helpful (almost positive 5)

^ I've never heard of such a thing.

Hey, thanks for all the info everyone!
