SAT II US History Subject test score

I recently took this test in June right after exams. I did take the AP and got high A's in the class. I believe I got a 5 on the AP exam. The problem is finals were a couple days before, so I didn't prepare for the US history subject test. I happened to get a 690 and I literally felt my stomach drop.

My college choices are Georgetown, Brown University, Boston College, Northwestern, Duke, University of Chicago, or Harvard. My GPA weighted is 4.27, but that is with 2 bands in consideration. If I drop these bands in my junior year and take an honors class, my GPA would go to 4.43 weighted. Unweighted it is 4.00

I'd really appreciate it if someone could evaluate this and tell me the estimated chances of me getting into the following schools. I am really worried about these scores and am wondering if I should retake it...

Your weighted GPA doesn’t matter.

Recalculate it on an unweighted 4 point scale.

My unweighted gap is 4.00

Stay in those band classes if that’s what you enjoy. Don’t drop them and take honors courses just for the sake of getting a higher weighted GPA.

You’re good.

Subject tests don’t matter THAT much. If you have time, then retake. Retake if you’re set with your other subject tests (as it’s recommended/required to have at least 2 for top colleges) and if you have a solid SAT score.

I took the subject test for us history too and got a 680. I’ll probably retake it simply because a 680 doesn’t satisfy me… As for the band classes, stay in them or at least 1.

Is band more important than adding to the GPA? I already have numerous extracurriculars. Most of them are picked by the school for the top 1% of students. My college counselor has already told me I could drop out of all extra curricular activities for my last 2 years of high school and still get into any school of my choice. Do colleges really care about being well-rounded anymore? Supposedly they only care if you stick with one thing and do it all 4 years.

If band isn’t too high of a priority for you, then leave it. Your GPA is already good and shouldn’t influence whether or not you want to be in band. Of course, having another honors class would look good too.

Stay in the band. Your grades are solid. Write some wonderful essays - you will get in somewhere really good. Best of luck.
