SAT II US History Vs. AP US History

If I am ready for the AP US history exam, that basically means that I'm ready for the SAT II US History, right? But I heard that the SAT II USH has more "trivia" type of questions, like really random ones..

I cannot speak directly to US history but I did this for European and I found that taking the SATII just before the AP was a great practice. I think the AP was much harder and I don't remember the SATII questions being any more trivial than the AP ones. So I think if you can take the AP you can take and do well on the SATII. Hope this helps.

actually, thinking about it, it must have been US not Euro that I took. The rest of what I said still holds though.

I took them one day apart last year. They even shared two questions (the same question just reworded)! If you prepare for the US History AP, you will be ready for the Sat II just research for yourself the difference in their formats. The Sat II if I remember correctly had more straight foward facts and less analyzing than the AP multiple choice. Good Luck!

i would say yes but it's difficult to really gauge these things because i don't know how difficult your ap class was or how well you were prepared for the ap test.

i took the sat2 after the ap test, and i had no prep whatsoever for the sat2. in fact, i decided to take it on the spot. and i got a 780.

I'm also taking the AP US next Friday as well as the SAT II US History the day following. I'd hope that AP is harder since those who participate in the program presumably are intelligent, overachieving students whereas the SAT II caters to a broader spectrum. Hopefully prep for the AP US exam is enough. You could always borrow prep books from the library (since the exams are coming up in a week, I would think buying it would be a bit of a waste) and do practice tests if you really want to be confident on this. I'm sure you'll do fine, though. Good luck!!

Thanks for all the input. I think the AP test should prepare me well.

I'm am doing the same as Joycelene this year. I'm a little worried about the SAT II though. Last year, I'd thought that the World Hist would be fine after taking the AP (which I did well on-5), but I ended up doing not so well on the SAT II. I have yet to figure out why.

I looked at a SAT II book for US History and the format is a little strange. You have to really understand the chronology of everything, as there are questions like "Which of the following events came first/last?".
Also, there were a few questions that were like "Who said the following quotation?" which totally blew me out of the water. I found it somewhat more fact-oriented, versus the analysis and comparison that is on the AP.
I really hope that the SAT II works out for me though, becuase I am in dire need of 700+ SAT IIs.
Well, good luck to all.
