In May i took the AP US History test and received a "5", and i was wondering if the SAT II US History Subject test covered the same information? And if not what is different? P.S. Are there any essays on the SAT II US History Subject Test?

The ap mc and subject test cover the same info, just the subject tests are just pretty much fact recalling. There’s no analyzing or essays (thank goodness), all the questions are straight forward. If you remember APUSH and are good at memorizing, you’ll do fine. I mean, after APUSH, the subject test was so ridiculously easy.

Ahh, you should have taken the exams immediately together, but I guess it’s too late for that. Not to worry though, just make sure you review like crazy. The SAT II is fact-based questions, while the AP is more analyzing.

alright thanks, any suggestions for which study book to use (buy)? I mean i have an APUSH exam review book, would it be wise to purchase the Subject test book?

Crash Course is essential.

From other posts ive been reading, people say that they’ve been getting around 65(0?) with Crash Course. I’m aiming for the 800. Do you think it is the peoples lack of time/effort, or is it the book? And Swaggerer have you, by any chance, taken this Subject Test.

I got a 5 but only a 640 XD. Retook it last weekend, results still pending but expecting 700 ish.
I used REA for AP. and Kaplan for SAT II.

Yeah, they are about the same. I have taken both. None of the tests test anything in detail. SAT II tests on books a lot I’ve noticed, so get familiar with the literary works of the time.

Can anybody give any pointers?

I just used AMSCO for both and got a 5 and a 780.

SAT II has more stuff about popular culture at the time. Stuff like “Which of the following novels chronicles the Reconstruction period?”

^I’ve heard good things from AMSCO and REA. Which one is better for the SAT II?

i used REA and barron’s and got a 790. just flip through the books and read to understand everything that you can. then take a few sparknotes practice tests because they seemed to be the most accurate.

Also, because it’s straight up MC, it’s not even a matter of recall–it’s just plain and simple recognition, so be sure that you can identify pictures of propaganda as well as pictures of works by famous artists and such. if you got a 5 on AP, then you should have a pretty solid chance of scoring well on the SAT, just be sure to review a lot before the test.

You’ll do fine on the subject test if you were able to get ~80% right on the AP test multiple choice. If you got a 5 but were mediocre at the MC part and basically just BS’d the essays, you probably will struggle on the subject test. As for books, I used AMSCO. Definitely take the online sparknotes practice tests also.

I think the SAT II questions are a lot more detailed.

Very true, mabsjenbu123. The SAT 2 questions can definitely seem a lot more random than the AP questions.

AMSCO and REA and Crash Course are the 3 books i’m seeing that are used to study for the test; im about to order one. Which one should i go with?

Use AMSCO and Crash Course (yes both).

I would also recommend Spark Notes. It is surprisingly useful as a general overview.

alright, thanks a lot. I am also open to any additional tips to help me prepare for this subject test (:
