SAT II US History

I'm taking the test in June and just took the AP US History test in May. Is it pretty much on the same stuff?

I’d like to know this too. I’d really rather review Bio and Math II =D

Yeah I bought the PR book for it anyway, mostly for the practice tests. I think you can get like 12-15 wrong and still get an 800.

It’s pretty similar. I found (personally) that it doesn’t go as far as the AP test did, questions were limited to before 1980s pretty much. There were a lot more easier questions on the SAT than the AP test

Very similar. If you know the material for AP US history exam well, you will do well on the sat 2.

and it’s around 8 questions wrong for an 800 (I think)

I checked the review book. It says a 75 or higher (out of 95) raw score is an 800. So that could be up to 16 wrong. (79 - (16*.25) = 75)

^ It depends. The exam has “90-95” questions. I’m pretty sure the most you can miss and still get an 800 is 8. (I missed 13 on Sparknotes and got 740)

Yeah in the PR book there are two exams, one with 90 questions and one with 95. I was using the scale from the 95 one, but the two scales seem to be too different. On the 90 question test, you can miss 7 questions and get an 800. But on the 95 question test you can miss 15 and get an 800. One of them is obviously wrong. I hope its the first one.

Does anyone have a different review book that has a score conversion table?

I have the collegeboard book for subject tests (released exams)

the curve in here goes as follows:
79-90 = 800
72-78 = 750+
64-71 = 700+

that would mean omitting 11 or getting 9 wrong or some combination of the two for an 800

That’s cool. I think I’ll trust the college board, considering that they make the test.

It’s like the MC section, but with more matching direct quotations.

Yeah that’s what the PR book said. It also says that the SAT does factoids, which are just pieces of information that you either know or you don’t, which is something that the AP does not do. That worries me a little bit, because it’s tough to make an educated guess when the question just says “What did _____ do?”

Wait, so does the actual test have 90 or 95 questions? I’ve seen practice tests with both!

I’ve only seen them with 90 questions (official tests)

The SAT II is actually harder. Check our sparknotes for a preview (sparknotes is slightly harder than the SAT II, which I am quite sure, is far harder than the MC section of the AP tests)

I found the AP test to be kind of difficult. I think I got a 5, but I’d say I probably got around 65 of the 80 questions right, which wouldn’t translate to an 800 on the subject test.

I find it hard to believe that the SAT is harder than AP because AP is college level material while SAT would be like honors high school course.

It is easier to get a 5 on the AP exam than an 800 on the SATII because on the AP you are able to get more questions wrong (like 10-15).

BMfrankel is right, the AP gives you a more generous curve, plus the essay/DBQ grading is a lot more subjective. SAT IIs are harder to get that perfect score, but definitely far from impossible.
