I know everyone's all jazzed about having gotten in (CONGRATS!), but for a junior who's not quite there yet ;)...

SAT IIs...are any more preferable than others? Any combo more preferable?

ex. I'm taking US because I'm doing the APtwo birds, one stone.
For my second one though I was thinking math to balance out the history, but
a) does it matter if you do I or II...
b) is that legit? feeling the need to balance history with math?

if that's not necessary then I'm thinking lit as my second because I'm better at english than math..anyone have any thoughts on lit? i'm a big reader so in my mind I feel it won't be hard for me, but if anyone has taken it, want to let me know what you thought?

you could always do all three, if you can. but if you’ve gotten excellent grades in math, i’d say go for the history/lit and demonstrate your ability and to put a context to your A (assuming you got one).

i’m not much of an admissions officer but i’m sure they like you to diversify so if possible i’d say take all three.

Take the SAT II’s in subjects in which you can get the best score. The SAT II’s are there to demonstrate your strengths, not to somehow ‘diversify’ your application by taking an SAT II in a subject you’ve never excelled in.

If you would get the best scores in humanities-only SAT II’s, then take those SAT II’s. Don’t feel compelled to take a math or science one if you know your score won’t be all that good.

Three scores of 750+ in literature, a language, and a history test (for example) are much better than two good scores in a humanities-based test and one sub-par score (for Yale, anyways) in math or science.

Are you good at math? If you’re horrible, I wouldnt suggest it. Most schools only want Math II…so that’s the one I would take. But you need to know trig for that so keep that in mind.

USH is definitely a good idea.

I would also try Lit. It never hurts to have 3 subject tests just in case. Especially if you’re good at English.

But yeah, I would take the ones you’re good at. I guess having a math/science would be helpful though. Just to show you’re decent at those subjects as well…

I do have an A in math in school for the last 3 years, but it’s not generally a strength of mine on the SAT (funny how that works out…)

So I think I’ll rep the USH/Lit combo (I don’t at all have time to go for three…)

And on another note:
ACTs go much better for me so I’m submitting ACT/Writing for my Yale app instead of my the SAT I/II option, but there are some schools, like Columbia, that require you to take SAT IIs—for these schools is it possible to submit my ACT/Writing score and SAT II scores only? Or do they automatically get SAT I the second you submit SAT II?

My ACT score is very strong so I’m hoping if the SAT I and II are a package deal that they’ll focus on my ACT score in lieu of my SAT I…

If you send Yale your official score report for the SAT IIs, it will automatically send your SAT scores as well. What you can do is send your official score report for the ACT and then just say on your actual application your scores for the SAT IIs. I’m not sure if you can send both official reports…

^ hahah. Agreed. Definitely moooore than enough haha!

Hey Denebola Haven’t seen you on CC in a while!
Man, these next couple of weeks are crazy. I doubt I’ll be on CC until after alllll the AP exams are over and I had a good couple of weeks to relax and celebrate.

Wow!! Congrats on your ACT score! Looks like that really worked out well for you!!!

I’m also taking Lit in June. Is that when you’re taking it?
Time is flying by. Not long ago I was thinking that there were a million test days for the SAT/ACTs left. Now…I’m like running out of time. One more SAT II test day (June) and one last SAT testing (Oct) left for me! Scary. But hallelujah they’re almost over!
