I was wondering if it would be possible to self study the SAT II World History test. I took Honors World History as a freshman and I am taking Western Civilization next year, but other than that I have no World History classes. Would it be possible to use the Princeton Review book to study for the World History test and then take it in November or December? And if I'm going to take it I want to make sure I get at least a 700.

i am trying to do the same thing

Think it’ll be achievable?

I think self-studying SAT II World History is possible, but not with Princeton Review. If you use Barron’s AP World History, you can probably get an 800.

What makes Barron’s better? I wouldn’t be averse to getting another book because the one I have now I only have because of the US History test. But is it really that big a difference? Because the PR book is about 150 pages on world history.

Barron’s difficultly level is harder so the preparation is more intense–it makes the practice tests taken far more comprehensive.

It also, ‘stresses you out more,’ because of this higher difficultly level and makes you study harder to NOT bomb the Barron’s practice tests–which, in turn–makes your real test much better :)

That makes sense. I’d rather take the harder test as practice, rather than an easy one.

As you said, PR has 150 pages on World History. That is not adequate at all–150 pages isn’t enough to cover 230 years of US History, let alone 10000 years of World History.

I just took the APWH exam…I’m more than prepared for the subject test haha.

what about kaplan and its tests?

yes that’s what i want to know
i have kaplan too

kaplan blows in general…for EVERYTHING. its a confidence booster really. LOL they offer a “PRE-SAT” at my school and its a joke.

Yeah there’s a Kaplan class at my school too. I didn’t take it and got the best SAT scores in my school. Everyone who took it said it was a waste of time.

Would it be possible to self study world history even if one hasnt taken a world history course at school? In comparison to other subjects, how hard is world history.

no you misunderstand.
i’m not talking about a course.
i’m talking about the kaplan world history book
it has a pretty large summary, about 300 pages, with some terms, and two practice tests, but hard to tell if its good

^^^ no i did not misunderstand. i said “kaplan blows for everything”. Everything they do is a weak representation of what any actual standardized test would be. An example would be that joke of an “pre-sat” test

are you guys using the ap books to prep as well?

in that case what review book do you reccomend?

I think I’m going to self study for WHist too, I took the AP last year but can’t remember anything and got a 4, not the 5, using PR (horrible teacher though). I’m going to use Barron’s now because it is harder and would probably be a better preparation. Does Barron’s have a book specific for the subject test or should I just use the AP?

Also, Kaplan really is horrible, seriously.

How is the Barron’s SAT? I’ve read through the AP for Barron’s, but I do not know if that is sufficient to earn a 800.
