Sat II World History

Hi,

I had a few questions for anyone who has completed the SAT II World History test (I am planning to take it at some point in the future)

How did you score?

What preparation materials did you use?

Do you find that taking the AP course ‘world history’ is vital to scoring high on the SAT or can you score high without it? (That AP course isn’t offered here, so I won’t be able to take it anyways :(…)

If you have any particular advice, or experience that you think will help.

2.AP course/Barron's AP World History
3.For me, yes. I wouldn't have done well without taking AP.
4.Most people on this board find Barron's SAT II WH and Kaplan SAT II WH to be good study materials. I read Barron's SAT II as well, but I didn't think it was too helpful...but the practice tests are good.

720

Barron's AP World, Barron's SAT II World, the Real SAT II book (only one practice test, but its real) - my AP class taught me nothing

Not neccessarily... they are two different tests, you must realize this. The AP is focused more on comparing/generalizations of societies while the SAT II is based more facts

use Barron's AP and SAT II... each one has its benefits. The tests in Barron's SAT II are not similar to the actual one (they're harder), so get the real SAT II book. I don't know much about Kaplan's book. The actual test is pretty intense and there's alot of random info, so Good Luck!

I got a 780 and all I did was get a practice book for the exam. I had pre-AP World History in 9th grade and took the test the June after 11th grade. I'm a history buff though, so that had to help.

760

a mixture of Barron's satII and Kaplan, but mostley Barrons, jst filling in the detail's w/ kaplan

they dont offer AP's at my school either and i did fine, just as long as you have a good teacher and you seriously take the time to study you should be fine

just start studying early! The test is easy and alot of it is general, but it coveres a wide area of time

800

Kaplan mostly, a little barrons

I did the AP course independantly and never took a course in school.

Its a ******** test. Wayyy more general knoledge than anything specific. Honestly, you need to almost dumb yourself down and DONT OUTTHINK THE TEST. Study early and read your book while tanning on spring break. And dont worry. You only need the prep book, no text book. A text book might actually hurt you lol.

Between Kaplan and Barron's, is there one which is good enough(for a 800)? How's PR?

800

Kaplan - entirely

I did the AP course independently and took it a month before the SATII test.

This test tests general knowledge, rather than specific details. Given the generous 800 curve, you can probably get around 10 to 14 questions wrong and still get a 800...just don't panic and you'll do fine. Oh yeah - it's best not to cram too many details in but rather focus on the big picture.

I really like Kaplan...Barron's was somehow not entirely relevant to the scope of SATII i thought. Be warned - the simulation tests in Kaplan are much harder than the real thing :P
