I'm taking the sat 2 lit and math 2 this week. How do these compare to the act math and reading?

The Math II is incredible easy. If you’ve got a decent calculator and remember your basic trig/pre-calc, you’ll breeze right through it.

I can’t speak for the literature though.

Well, from accounts of ACT i heard, it is easier than SAT I CR (I’ve received 750 on CR)

BUT, on SAT ii literature, unless you are very adept / skilled / or have a lot of practice on literature, it will be very difficult. It is very hard to manage with the time restraint, and the large number of poems that you must analyze (not easy poems either)

also, Math 2c is manageable. As long as you are decent at math, or have some practice, you’ll score high

I’m taking literature too! It’ll be my third subject test so I can cancel my scores if I don’t feel like I did well. Only just decided to do it…it’s my last opportunity for a subject test, so why not? I’m probably going to pull an all nighter Friday to learn all the terms and techniques and then chug some red bull before sitting for it. I heard it isn’t THAT hard if you did well on CR.

So for Harvard, what are good Subject Test scores? 700+? 750+? Or nothing less than 800 on tests like Math II and Physics?

How does Physics compare to the ACT Science?

I just looked at the Literature practice test today… what a joke. I do not feel comfortable having my application ride on that. I’m praying and hoping I can change tests this Saturday. According to the CollegeBoard website, you can change tests on testing day for no extra charge.

Any ideas on what another “easy” (not silly literature) SAT II to take? :)

Physics has nothing to do with ACT science. Take a few practice tests. It’s data analysis and logic.

AP physics is plenty of background for SAT physics. Same for chem. Basically all the AP subjects you’re taking now.

It depends on the test. I would say that a 700+ would be solid, but a 750+ would probably put you in a more competitive position. Math II probably has the highest standard since about I believe about 11% get 800s. Keep in mind though, that the admissions process for Harvard is holistic, so in most cases, one score won’t affect your application too much.

You can. They give you a booklet with all the subject tests and you can just take the ones you want. You can even take more or fewer exams than you signed up for as long as it’s fewer than three regardless of how many or which exams you signed up for.

The SAT II Lit test is much harder than the ACT Reading. And it’s not exactly a joke since it’s notoriously one of the hardest subject tests. The percentiles are enough to prove that.

Well, I’ve taken Math II, Lit and Bio.

The Math II was actually the hardest for me. I’ve got a pretty short attention span, so the first time around I was a bit overconfident and made a lot of careless mistakes. The 740 that came in the mail was a body blow to my ego, lol. I took it again (more carefully) and got an 800 though.

Bio was a piece of cake. I took it in May or June right after the year ended. I was fresh out of AP Bio, so the SAT Bio was a bit of a joke. I actually had time to fill out both the E and M questions, then pick which set I’d bubble in. Went with M because I didn’t know my biomes too well. Thank you Dr. Gubala for the 800.

I don’t know why everyone complains about the Lit, because I actually thought that was the easiest. I didn’t need to study or memorize anything for it. Then again, I’m a bit of a freak-- critical reading comes really easy to me. Woohoo for no TV and only books until I was 10, lack of TV got me an 800.

The Math II is the best subject test to take. The other one is up to you-- depending on what classes you’re taking this year, take the test corresponding most closely to the class you are best in or like the most in May or around whenever school ends.

And is the SAT II looked on with respect to your prospective major? For instance, if I state that I intend to study International Relations, will a high Math II score mean anything/a low Math II score won’t matter much?

I’m going to sign up for math 2, physics and us history.

Is engineering science an unpopular major at harvard? Better admission standards for them? Or ‘easier’ to get in?

I notched that the sat 2 is optional. I’m probably not going totake it tomorrow. I can’t imagine this will actually hurt or help my application, the way I is now. Any thoughts?

What do you mean? SAT II’s are required for admissions for Harvard

Nope - http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/forms/transfer_full_application_1011.pdf

^ That’s for transfer admissions.

i second silverturtle’s statement

sat ii is required for undergraduates. it states that they “recommend” 3, but 2 is the requirement

Today is the latest SAT II they accept?

How long has Harvard required the SATII? The 2013 decisions thread shows no SAT IIs.
