DS had 630 literature, 610 US History - not great either, but has otherwise pretty good test scores and grades

The cutoff for a major scholarships is 660 in each SAT section/subject. So you're not eligible for a scholarship, but not necessarily out of the running for just general admission either. They probably are on the low side. Which math is that?

Math I (not really much of a math whiz)

I don't need a scholarship, so that's okay. It never asked about legacies in the app., but does the fact that my dad went there help?

I'm not sure if this is the thread to stick this under, but it is a kind of an interesting point. From what I gathered last year, McGill looks at each criterion separately, as opposed to the "overall package" - meaning you could have outstanding GPA, class rank, grades, etc, but if your SAT didn't reach the cut off it doesn't "balance out" - you just get rejected. Not to sounds scary or intimidating - I just had a friend who that happened to last year, and it was a real shock for her.

amazing!

I got a 720 on the French.

mentioned 660 each for scholarship? wad if i missed in critical and writing but far exceeds in others?
eg
SAT1:
math 790
critical 620
writing 630

SAT2:
mathIIC 800
chemistry 780
chinese 800

You seem fine for admission, and I'm sure that the admissions committe will take into account your high aptitude for both math and science, and your Chinese SAT II score will look awesome.

...unless you are Chinese.

And if you aren't 660 in each section I think you're out, no matter what your other scores are. Like staringatmyshoe said, the cutoffs are pretty straightforward and I don't think they'll take it into account that you may have exceeded in other areas. Competition for the scholarships is pretty stiff. Sorry :-(.

sigh...do they look at where u come fr to judge that 660? i think i'd just try for the basic scholarship..it's just getting my counselor to send in a report ya?

Lets say one did not meet the SAT II cutoff for one of the tests but met the ACT cutoff....would they still be in contention or out? (for general admission)

What they told me last year was that they will only take your best score - so even if you send everything along they will probably only use the ACT and you'll be fine :)

I sure hope so. I will retake anyway but that is a relief. I myself visited over the summer but the actual admissions personnel were off on the day I visited. The tour was great though.
