Im a junior right now. I was wondering about taking the ACT with writing instead of taking the SAT II's. Would that work? I talked to a BC admissions director who came to our school and he said they would accept that. How do you think I should find out about where other schools stand on it? I want to apply to NYU, Umich and GW.

anyone??????

I think the ACT with writing would be fine in place of the new SAT, but I'm not sure if it could replace all SAT IIs... check with the specific schools (website, email, call).

There are only about 50 schools that even require SAT II's (and that number will actually come down a little now because a handful of those required only the SAT II writing which the new wrting section in the SAT and ACT replace). However, that includes most of your highly ranked schools, including all ivies. Nevertheless, there are a number of those schools that will take the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and SAT II's. I do not have an entire list of them and you would need to check each school to which you intend to apply, but they include: three of the ivies: Yale, Brown, Penn; Duke, John Hopkins, Amherst, BC (as you note), Wesleyan, Tufts, Vassar, Wellesley, Trinity (Conn.). Nevertheless, there are obviously a number that still require II's even if you submit ACT and if you plan to apply to any those (like the rest of the ivies, MIT, Caltech) you will need those II's.
