SAT II's and AP's

I'm planning on taking the SAT II's for Chemistry and Math II on the May 5 test date. On May 7, two days after I take these, I will be taking the AP Chem exam.

My question is how similar are the Chemistry exams for SAT II and AP Chem? Are they basically the same test, just formatted differently somehow? Would I need to study for them separately or would just studying for the AP exam basically be the same as the SAT II exam?

You will need to prepare both. Preparing for AP Chem is good for SAT II Chem, but their are some differences so you would also need a SAT II prep book.

AP Chem is, imo, a lot more difficult and more detailed than the SAT Chem. Although there are some differences you’ll have to account for, you’ll pretty much be tested on the same knowledge.

You don’t really need to study for SAT Chem if you’ve already studied for AP Chem, though you’ll probably still want to get familiarize with the SAT Chem format before you do take it.

^Agreed, SAT was a lot harder than AP. If you study hard for the AP and take a few practice tests, you should do very well.

Is there really any difference between them besides the format? And how are the formats different?

AP Chemistry uses more math than SAT Chem, and AP Chem consists of both multiple choice and written response. You get 90 minutes to complete multiple choice section and 60 minutes to complete the SAT Chem (all sections combined). The amount of questions are the same, but SAT Chem problems are much simpler. If you’re that person who’s very fast and consistent (little silly mistakes), SAT Chem will be a quick cruise.

Other than the formatting, there’s really nothing different. You’ll be using the same knowledge for both tests.
