I know they obviously don't release average SAT II scores at NU, but what would you estimate the ranges to be? I'm taking US History and Math II and want to compensate for my mediocre 31 ACT (35/33/33/24). What should I be aiming for? Thanks.

Aim for 800, obviously.

Set your sights at the top!

Realistically, though. Haha. How significant of role do you think they have in admissions?

I didn’t even send my SAT II’s, and I got in okay (I suppose). Evidently they don’t matter THAT much.

idk11, you should take the ACT and focus on the science (assuming thats the 24)…that’s your only score below 33, so if you really study for that and get it up, you could raise your composite score…
as for the SAT II’s…not really sure…

my act scores were just like that. i got a 31 overall but mainly because my science was really low. if i remember correctly mine was 34/33/31/26. I didnt bother to retake… i concentrated more on SATs and my scores on those were consistently in the low 2000s.

SAT IIs i sent were not impressive at all either, but I got in. so just study for the ACT and retake it. Then write really good essays on your app.

So I definitely need to retake the ACT? ****.

SAT II’s can’t really compensate for low ACT’s…SAT I can tho…

I have read somewhere on the NU site that high SAT II scores in subjects where your SAT 1 was low can be helpful, so I assume a high SAT II in a science can be just as helpful with respect to a low ACT science score.

I’m not taking an SAT II in science, though. So I guess this thread has spawned a different question: Should I really retake the ACT for NU?

retake the ACT or get a respectable SAT I score instead. I guess it just depends on how much time you’re willing/able to put in though.

I have already taken the ACT twice (30 and 31). Would colleges look down on a third try?

On the ACT, you get to choose which scores you report, so only report the 31 or the third try, if that’s a better score.

Realistically, do you think I could nab a 32+? I got a 30 (32/31/30/27) in February and a 31 in April (35/33/33/24)?

I can’t tell you how many people I know of who have gone up two points, so it’s certainly possible, and you have nothing to lose by trying.

Okay. Thanks for your help.

generally a score from 700 - 800 is good/respectable, keep in mind that sat 2’s are generally easier than the multiple choice part of ap tests

idk11, looking at all your other subscores, a 32 or 33 definitely looks realistic…just try to maintain your other subscores and raise science

I’ve decided I am going to retake the SAT in October. I’m just burned out from the ACT, and my Etymology has been studying SAT strategies, so I believe that would be my wisest option. If I apply Early Decision, will Northwestern be able to receive my October scores in time?

**** it. I don’t want to be doing this in the fall. June 13 ACT. Registered.
