How important are these? Is anything above a 700 ok? I'm talking about for Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc.

750 is the minimum you should settle for. Try to get at least 1 800.

try to get an 800 in math 2... 750 and above is excellent in the rest

isnt above 700's good enough?

i hope so.

I'd say 750 and above would be the bare minimum. Its always great to get at least one 800.

Oh geez, that's not going to happen for me. I'm terrible with standardized tests, and can't get over 730 on anything.

But I resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't getting into the University of Pennsylvania a long stime ago. Oh well...

id say if you have a 7 in front of all your scores, you're set.

hey, question
i already took math 2 (800), us history (710) and lit (670)
i just took the chem one and did pretty bad...but i will get between 500-700 most likely..i took it for a college that requires a science one, but should i send it to others just to show that i took more tests? oi

Don't listen to what everyone here is saying brberconcerto, any three scores that are at least around 700ish are fine for even the Ivies. Scores, especially SAT II's, have a very limited impact on the admissions process.

I sure hope so...and seriously do not take what ppl say on cc too seriously, you must notice they are all amazingly smart and driven people with tons of ecs and great essay topics(that I couldn't even understand) and vERY GOOD test taking skills so...the simple answer would be anywhere from 670+ would be great( a little higher for some subjects like math IIc and Chinese).

Sorry but anything in the low 700s and below will hurt you. Look at the percentiles of those scores and you'll see that they are nowhere near the top 10%. And we all know that very few people who are not in the top 10% get into Ivies.

The thing is that my SAT IIs are: 700 US His, 710 Math II, 720 Lit, and I just retook some last week, but my SAT scores are good: 800 CR, 800 W, 760 M. Can high SAT scores offset mediocre SAT IIs?

You fail to miss a major point regarding the percentiles for the subject tests that has aggrevated me enough to point it out...

The subject tests are taken by a self-selected group of people who are aiming at the very top colleges that require SAT subject tests, and they are taking them in their best 2 or 3 subjects. Therefore your comment, 'not in the top 10%' becomes completely pointless. Top 10% of what? top 10% of perhaps the top 20% of all seniors who take the reasoning test?? Because that isn't nearly as bad as you seem to portray.

Furtermore, your comment also contains a complete non-sequitur, which resides in your assumption that people who score outside the top 10% on SAT subject tests are not 'in the top 10%.', of, I presume, the top colleges' applicant pool. Your assumption appears to be that there is some correlation of around 1 that relates SAT subject test scores to you overall application percentile, which in itself is a ridiculous thing to try and assertain.

SAT subject tests are not pointless, otherwise they would not be desired by colleges, but please don't try to support an argument grossly over-exaggerates their significance. And no, I'm not wittering on because i'm a bitter old troll procrastinating as I wait for the third Billy Goat Gruff to cross my bridge, but because I have spoken to the admissions committe members and private guidance councellors who regularly repeat the same message.

I also find it hugely irritating the need people on here feel to knock others down. Its as though there is a desire to 'knock out' the competition by making them feel completely inadaquate so they decide not to apply. It's very childish.

i agree with LadyLou - Sat's are not the end all be all.. in fact, my interviewer (at and ivy) said that this school places just as much emphasis on extra-curriculars, sports and work experience, as the numbers. So... if you're like me (good scores but not perfect - only like 700's) you still have a chance to get in. In fact, many students with perfect scores and all get rejected b/c they have no personality, or nothing else to them. Top tier schools are looking for the leaders of tomorrow. You have to be smart but a 2400 and three 800 Sat II's arent going to help you out in the real world... you think your employer is going to care?

Ivies want the whole package - and if you think about it a lot more kids can get great grades test scores, but the kids who stand out are the ones that have done amazing things outside of school.

If you're going to apply to the top schools, then obviously you want the highest scores you can get, so you should aim as high as you can. However, many people on this board place way, way too much emphasis on test scores. Getting low 700s may not be outstanding, but you definitely can still get admitted. What top schools really want to see is a passion for learning. Test scores can't show that.
