In December, I'm taking the SAT IIs: Writing, Math I, and Lit

The test is on the Dec. 4 I think and my application is due on Dec. 10. So essentially, I'm going to see what I got and then send my scores immediately if they're good.

I'm just wondering if these 3 tests are relatively easy, or if I should buy a book to study for them. Normally, I would study just to be safe. But as you can see, my application is due right around the same time and I'm going to be working hard on numerous essays and a portfolio. I'm only going to set aside time to study if it is absolutely necessary.

I got a 29 on the ACT and am expecting a score in the mid-1300s on my SAT. Do I really need to study for the SAT IIs? All I want is a 680+ on each.

I appreciate any advice.

Literature is known for being pretty tough, but its not really something you can study for. I mean, studying can't hurt for any of them. It wouldn't be so bad if you took the time to take practice tests for all three and see how you do. Then you could make a more informed decision about whether or not to study.

lol good luck with literature. prepare to be pwnz0r3d

Yeah. I'll reiterate: Literature is really tough.

Yeah....math definitely. If you're far removed from geometry or in-depth algebra 1 you need to review that stuff. Lit can't be studied for really but you can take practice tests. And unless you're a grammar wizard you might want to go over that too.

I took those 3 in one sitting. I did a little bit of review (an hour or so) for IC, but I should have done more, because I only got a 700. I did no prep for Writing or Literature (what is there to do, exactly?) and they both went well for me. 780 Writing, 770 Lit. I definitely agree with everyone who's said that Literature is tough. It really is. Unless your projected mid-1300s split is like 800 Verbal/ 550 Math, or at least 750 Verbal/ 600 Math, I wouldn't bother trying Literature.

The IC curve is pretty obnoxious. At the very least, take the tests in Real SAT II's to see where you need to prep - of if you need to prep!

wow..thats really weird, i heard the complete opposite about literature...that it's the easiest test to take because it's common sense and you can b.s. your way through it..someone i know said she wasnt planning on taking it but like flipped to that section of the book when she got done a different section early, looked at a couple questions, and just decided to take it ...she got an 800 ..

Maybe you're talking about Writing. Literature is very subjective and you have to figure out what the Collegeboard thinks is the right answer, although several answers may be appropriate. There's no bs-ing. There's lots of guessing.

Either your friend is lying, or she's an immensely talented English student. Even the best and brightest English students I've talked to think it's difficult...even if they scored an 800.

Yeah, it is not possible to bs the literature test. It's just answering questions correctly. If you're good at critical reading and comfortble with archaic english then yeah it's a pretty easy test. Most people aren't.

I'd also like to point out that it's cheating to flip ahead and look at the questions before you decide whether to take the test.

Also a very good point.
