I was wondering. How much do colleges look at your SAT IIs (esp. UCs-btw I live in CA)?? cus I got 800 (Math IIC), 710 (korean), and 690 (bio) and I would rather spend time studying for the SAT I than the SAT IIs. I was wondering how much good it would do if I studied a lot for SAT II bio and I brought it up to like a 750. I mean. Would those 60 points matter a whole lot?

Well a few years back (2000? 2001?) UC made it policy that SAT II scores be given double weight over SAT I scores in making admissions decisions. There are two things to be aware of, however:

I don't know about the current status of this policy.

Since they require only two SAT IIs, the total SAT II score you can get is 1600, whereas the SAT I has 2400 total points. I don't know the exact formula but if it is simply (SAT I total + 2 * SAT II total), then it is still very important to score well on the SAT I (and, of course, that score must be from one sitting).

On the other hand, if you find that you can't raise your one-sitting total SAT I score by more than 10 or 20 points, it would be worth it to raise the bio or korean score to 800.

All this only applies to UC, by the way.

thank you for the above info very much (I had never heard that before). and then I decided to research it some more and then I found this:

"In other action, the regents approved a new admissions test policy to require students entering UC in 2006 to take a new SAT I that includes a writing exam, or the ACT with an added writing component. In addition, students will have to take two SAT IIs in subjects such as history/social science, English, mathematics, laboratory science or a foreign language. They currently take three SAT IIs: math, writing and one of their choice.

UC initiated the changes in its testing policy in 2001 after President Richard Atkinson said that the SAT I did not test what students were learning in the classroom. After he called for UC to scrap the test, the College Board decided to revamp it, dropping the analogies, changing the math and adding a writing component.

Under the new UC requirement, the SAT II exams will no longer be weighted twice as heavily as the SAT I.

"I think this is sending a message to the schools on the importance of writing at an early age and focusing on certain mathematics skills," Atkinson said. "I think we have accomplished a great deal."'

wow I never knew SAT IIs counted so much. I always thought they were like no big deal because for some reason, everyone around here stresses the SAT I a lot more than SAT II. k. now I must study both.

yes... I just answered my own question to help other peoplez who had the same q as me!!

i was wondering perplexit, when UC's pick up 2 SAT II's, do they pick up the top 2, say I took chem,bio,US,IIC...???

top 2...in the top 2 highest scores.

I'm not perplexit, but yea... they pick your two highest scores.
