I'm taking AP Calc AB right now in my senior year, and I'm planning on taking the Math SAT II. Can someone tell me what the difference is between the IC and IIC, and based on my present studies, will IC or IIC be better or worse for me?

IIC would probably be better - there is more material (considered more difficult - limits, sequences, probability, occasionally a matrix, and what not). Its curve is easier (10% of students who take it get 800), and if you're capable of doing all the math on it, you'll probably do well.

Did you take the SAT IIs? If so, which ones did you take?

I took the SAT II Math IIC last June (my sophomore year) and the SAT II Writing this October.

Did you find the writing difficult? And have you taken the SAT I, and how was your score?

I'm defintely going to say take IIC. The IC test is easier and on easier topics but the curve is a b!tch and I say that from personal expierence. I took it IC and got a respectable 93% but only a 730. IIC however was a lovely 90% and 800. I'm taking AP Calculus BC now so I'd defintely say IIC. Just make sure you are comfortable with everything the test covers, get a review book, but its a very 800able test

2C, without a doubt

IIC...the curve is easier and you'll be prepared for it, as it tests up to pre-cal/trig...

Kenko,

No, I didn't take the SAT I yet, as I'm waiting for the New SAT in March.

I didn't find the writing too difficult, as I felt well-prepped after using a multitude of prep books. Got an 800.

Do Math 2C! You are in Calc right now, and the test is all mostly Trig/PreCalc stuff so your Calc knowledge will only help you more. Plus the curve is very nice. I left 8 blank in June and still pulled off a 770.

I'll be the lone dissenter and say 1C. I was planning on taking the 2C until I realized (the night before the test, mind you) that I just didn't know the material on the test. I took pre-calc at the beginning of last year, but somewhere along the way I forgot a lot of what I learned. I took 2 practice tests and couldn't get above a 700 on either (even with the great curve.) So out of desperation, I decided to switch tests, and I went into the 1C with ZERO prep and got a 770 (99th percentile.) Not too shabby. So don't rule it out just because the curve isn't good. I'd prefer a 770 with a crap curve over a 630 with a good one anyday!

770 was the 99th percentile? I find that hard to believe...

I think you should take a practice test for BOTH IC and IIC. While the IIC curve is more forgiving, this isn't an "easy" test, despite what you read on this board. There are a lot of super math students taking this test. If you are in pre-calc or above in 11th grade, IIC is probably the right test, but take the practice tests first.

Yeah, I probably will end up taking the practice tests--to make sure which one is right for me-- i signed up for the Dec 4 tests, so I'll also have time to review! Thanks for the input!! =)

I hate the curve for IC...it sucks really, really bad...i got a 720 and at least a 93% but for IIC you can get an 800 with a 90%...easier....get Barron's and you'll get a 700+.
